The Canoe

She pulled on her chinstrap
Her helmet was snug
The river was calm
She stepped on a bug
They gave her a paddle
It was wooden and tall
She knocked a little boy over the head and made him bawl
Stay out of my path she thought
Cause this thing weighs a lot
Into her canoe she jumped with another girl
She said last time she did this it made her hurl
Off the bank she pushed and the boat shook
You take your side I'll take mine
Vomit girl gave a worried look
On down the river they paddled
She was having a blast and just couldn't be rattled
Ain't this how the Indians did it?
I bet they had fun too.
The rapids are fast but I'm not scared.
I love my canoe!

Good Morning To You

Good morning to you
I hope your day is great
You've got lots to do
You don't want to be late
You could climb a tree
Or jump in a puddle
Your time is free
Ashlyn Suttle
You should eat a good brunch
The fruit is real good
but there is little time to munch
You should nap if you could
The camp is real pretty
Your friends think you're witty
They take pictures all the time
You smile and pose
And sometimes you crinkle your nose
Your Mom and Dad miss you
And truly love you so
We asked Lulu about you but she just said No
Have fun at camp my dear
In your thoughts keep us near
We wait for your return one day
But until then in our hearts you will stay

Love Dad

The Pool

Today I went down to the pool
I looked up and what did I see
A bar hung by two ropes
Swinging as high as a tree
Sally jumped right up on there
And swung real high through the air
Rashonda looked at me
I said heck no I'm not going up there
I heard about what happened to Reggie
He came up with a wedgie.
I wasn't even wet not even one drop
Until Betty landed a belly flop
Caroline said i could fly through the air
I said I just didnt care
Johnny said I must be a wuss.
Uh oh.....
Sally, Rashonda, Betty, and Caroline
Knew that Johnny just crossed a line
All stood by the pool with their mouths agape
While Johnny made futile attempt at escape
While high on the platform i towered
Above little Johnny I peered down and glowered
Without hesitation I lept forward and free
I'll teach you to name call me!
It seemed suddenly i was high and free
How was I swinging by one knee?
The whole pool stopped cold to look up and stare
Where Johnny wound up I was not aware
Way up in the air I realized to be
A double pirouette by a wuss like me.

The Girl Who Threw Rocks

I once knew a little girl who liked to throw rocks
The boys on the street would ride their bikes fast
She would collect them and keep them in a box
Until her chance would come at last
Arms pulled back with eyes in a squint
She took her aim and away it went
Straight to Johnny who yanked her pony tail
She held her Popsicle
And heard Johnny wail

Dilly the Dougal

Dilly the Dougal dug down for days
Her friends were amazed at her dirt digging ways
One day she took time to talk with some snails
They kept looking at the dirt underneath her nails
Her neighbors assumed that Dilly was a mole
Because she was always deep down in a hole
But she didn't care about what others say
She always chose to live for today
Down down she dug with determination
Dirt makes me happy, this is my station

Have a Great Day at School

Have a great day at school
Don't break the golden rule
Sit still on the bus
For heavens sake don't cuss
At quiz time just keep your cool.

I love you, Dad

Shenanigans

Through my door shone light from the moon
I don't think the counselor will be back soon
Mona was watching the back door with care
Mary was nervously twitching her hair
There she was snoring all fast asleep
The three of us tiptoed without a peep
Mina who threatened us all day with glee
To tell to all boys a story about me
It wasn't that true but some of it was
I told her I loved dancing only just because
Mona and Mary said that's just not cool
Mina is scared of the deep end of the pool
I held in my hand a full can of mousse
Mona some lipstick but Mary wanted a truce
The cabin was quiet the moment was now
How she didn't wake up I know not how
Next thing I knew my mousse can was done
Lipstick was in more places than one
Mina woke up with a brand new hairdo
I danced for joy
That was so much fun!

Ice Cream

I could really go for ice cream
Bobby for a chocolate parfait
Sally got strawberry cream
Johnny licked his popsicle clean
Barbara didn't like her vanilla bean

But I just gotta have some ice cream
Rocky road is a delight
I had pistachio the other night

My friends say I'm obsessed
But would argue that they would be depressed
Without they joy of ice cream where oh where would they be?

They'd be sad I say

Vinegarones and Scarebeetuses

I'm sure I felt a bump below
While laying in my bed
I held my breath and
Stared up at the fan above my head
I'm sure I saw three arms reach out in a row
Or tentacles, I don't know
I'm sure if I stay wrapped real tight
I could avoid a bite
I know He probably stays real still
Until I fall asleep at night
This is last place I want to be all alone
To face the mighty Vinegarone!

But he dont know I have my friend who's in holed up in my closet

Who's hungrier than great white sharks
And mean as he wants to be
Who sharpens up his great big claws outside on that big tree
Who tried to eat my toes one night but didn't like the taste
Instead he woke me from my sleep and asked for a toothbrush and toothpaste
I'm sure if I just say the word
My friend would come out to meet us
And give that monster one big scare
My friend the Scarebeetus!

The Door

Breathe in and drop all thoughts
To think right now will slow me more
One foot in front of the other
It's time to go right through that door
This time it's mine to keep
And mine to lose
And though to all I may fail
To go back now I refuse
My prize I know it will be great
I won't delay I won't be late
I move with something deep inside
I can't explain but it's certainly not pride
Not to the swift or to the strong
Rings in my mind all day long
I step through and there I see
My Life and love looking right back at me

I Am Blind

Hold my hand my brother
I have no sight you see
I am just like you
Take a walk with me
It's hard the time you know
You don't know where to go
You're lost and you can't see
Just where you need to be
See me I am walking too
I got problems just like you
I can see them just the same
Just have myself to blame
Ask yourself if you can see
If you could be like me

Hold the door my brother
I have no sight you see
I am just like you
Come inside with me
It's good the time you know
A friend can help you grow
A piece of good advice
And a well spoken word
To see is to believe
At least that is what I've heard

Help me up my brother
I have no sight you see
I am just like you
I just want to be free
It's great the time you know
The day is a reward
Again to feel the sun
Hear a laugh and talk to someone
There was a time that I could see
The whole world around me
Ask yourself if you can see
If you could be like me

The Rasta Barber

Sittin in the barber shop
Some music is playin
Got out of bed this mornin
I needed a trim I'm just sayin
The barber likes his reggae
He's sharpening his razor
Come on down mon- he says
You can call me Lazer
What'll it be today mon he says
His arms swinging to the rasta beat
I wanted a new hairdo but I was getting cold feet
I could get a flat top or a buzz
Or a mullet just because
I wanted to impress the ladies
Lazer knew just the answer
He flew into action
For a barber he was a really good dancer
In minutes he finished his work while I sat
With pickcomb and scissors pulled out if his hat
I tipped him and walked out to get on my Harley
Then realized that I looked just like Bob Marley

Gretchen

On the day I knew your name
I knew you would be born
I saw you just the same
My daughter without form
Inside you took your place
Within my soul so clear
And set your time to come
Within the coming year

The Woodhouse Toad

I am a Woodhouse toad
The Junebugs I do eat
I stay off of the road
I don't jump across the street
Under a flat rock I do lay
And escape the heat of the day
The dogs just walk on by
While I gulp down a fly
One of them tried to lick me
But then behaved so sickly
At night the porch is lit
While on the steps do I sit
One bug, two bugs, three bugs, four
I ate a worm while sitting by the door
My skin Is like the bark of a tree
If I stay still you won't see me
On me is happiness and peace bestowed
I am a woodhouse toad
